Observers of the Supreme Court, expect the august body to rule on the President’s signature healthcare overhaul within the next few hours or days. The legislation is often derided as Obamacare to which the President has inverted the insult by stating that “Obama Does Care”. Both phrases highlight the implications of the measure. The reform extended healthcare to 30 Million Americans and aims to end egregious policies such as discrimination on the basis of pre-existing conditions. Obama’s signature piece of legislation was designed to curb excess in the healthcare markets by preventing insurers from denying coverage to customers that paid their premiums or charging women more money for the same care. As Americans have witnessed the benefits of the proposal, many have come to appreciate the reform. Parents with children that are allowed to stay on their insurance long after graduating from college and up until the age of 26 have lauded the bill as progressive and especially essential for young people still struggling to find employment.
However, Republicans have argued that it was a historical over-reach. Key to the provision is a requirement that all Americans purchase insurance. The Healthcare Mandate, drives down costs for everyone, but the GOP argues its socialism and quite nearly dictatorial in the powers it exercises over the individual.
When the Supreme Court rules they will take sides in the most contentious political issue of our day. Both sides are spinning in preparation of the ruling. Democrats warn that if the Justices rule against the President, the cost of insurance will sky rocket and millions of Americans, including the young-now covered by their parents insurance, will lose coverage. The Republicans argue that if the Justices’s don’t rule against the President, we will lose our Democracy.
Is the economy turning around or not? This is the question that dominates our political landscape and will likely decide the November Presidential Election. If the economy is in the midst of a recovery, President Obama will have a very good Christmas. If it is not, Mitt Romney will be moving to Washington D.C. With the fate of both Candidates dependent upon public perceptions of our economic fortunes, both are anxious to massage the steady stream of data that informs public opinion. However, the Romney campaign is gaining critics who take issue with the camps latest move. Romney has apparently asked Republican Governors, to downplay positive economic news in their respective states. As the presumptive nominee travels from State to State, he is finding it increasingly difficult to convince voters that President Obama is a failure, when GOP Governors are undercutting his message with sunny and optimistic news about the direction of their states. If voters keep hearing from GOP Governors that the economy is improving, those voters may see very little need for a Romney Presidency!
The Palin’s have been considered ratings gold for network television. The political mega celebrities have been given two shows in the past and now, Bristol Palin-the daughter of Sarah Palin has her own show. Unfortunately, the magic of her mother seems to be fading. Over 1 Million people turned the channel when Bristol’s show started on the Lifetime Network. 1.8 Million people were watching the network prior to the Palin show, but when her show started the ratings dipped to just over 760,000 people, effectively driving away 1.1 Million viewers.
A Congressional House Committee has voted to hold President Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress, for refusing to hand over documents, critical to their investigation of his office. The charge, could land the Attorney General behind bars. The Committee is investigating an ATF program called Fast and Furious, which allowed guns to be sold into Mexico with the hope of tracking them. But when the guns went missing and one of the weapons was implicated in the death of a border agent, congress became involved.
The irony over Fast and Furious is that Eric Holder shut down the program, almost as soon as he heard about it. Some have questioned the motivations behind the investigation which is led by Chairman Darryl Issa, who denounced the President’s administration as the most corrupt in history, long before he ever investigated any activity.
Some have also noted that Operation Fast and Furious was a continuation of a Bush era program called Operation Wide Receiver. The Committee Investigating Holder has refused to call Bush officials, suggesting that their motivations are partisan in nature. Critics wonder, how Republicans can object to a tactic that originated under their leadership.
The public discussion, in right wing circles seems to fault Eric Holder for the program going awry. The AG is not in operational control of ATF programs. In fact, Issa’s investigation actually may impede Holder’s own attempts to investigate who authorized Fast and Furious and how the weapons were lost.
The investigation of Holder is being interpreted by some, as attempt to entrap the AG in legalisms. At several points, the House Committee has demanded documents of Holder that he was legally barred from providing. Incredibly, the Committee could fault him for not providing the documents or charge him with breaking the law if he did comply with their request. Now, after several document dumps by the AG, the Committee is demanding even more documents. And the AG has requested the President evoke executive privilege over the classified documents.
If the House supports the committee’s vote, it will be the first time in history that an Attorney General has been found in contempt of congress.

On the heels of it’s new Microsoft Tablet Announcement, Microsoft has unveiled another weapon in the war against Apple and Android. They are preparing to unleash an army of new cell phones, onto the world. The phones will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, which will reach across platforms from the desktop computers of most businesses, to tablets and now, onto phones. This provides users with a seamless platform and constantly familiar interface, no matter what device you happen to be using. Microsoft is addressing a bit of a disconnect that often bothers users, when their phones operate in a totally different fashion from their other devices. Now, when you play your xbox, use your desktop, play with your tablet or use your phone, the interface will always be essentially the same.
Features for the new Metro style phones include, Microsoft’s trademark tiles, which distinguish it’s phones from virtually every other mobile device. The live tiles display constant information from the apps which operate in the background. Now users can resize those tiles to reflect their importance in their lives. Improved screen resolutions will provide crisper images and multi core processors mean faster performance. Microsoft also seems intent on tempting consumers to get rid of their wallets, with their new e-wallet feature. The feature exists on other phones, but Microsoft promises better usage for consumers that no longer want to carry cash and instead pay for items using, just their cell phones.
MICROSOFT’S NEW TABLET: Windows 8 Works on Both The New Cellphones and The Tablets
Apparently, Mitt Romney had no interest in Marco Rubio as a Vice President. Despite, the GOP’s significant troubles with Latino Voters and it’s persistent lack of diversity, Mitt Romney saw no need to even vet Marco Rubio for consideration. But All of That has changed, NOW! The Romney Campaign has endured a blistering few hours of disgust, from those within the Republican Party, as it announced that it wasn’t considering the rising star. They have since reversed their previous disinterest in Marco Rubio.
Last Week, when President Obama announced that he will no longer permit the deportation of children or young adults brought into the country illegally, he was hailed as a hero. Crowds of occasionally sobbing and overwhelmingly enthused young people were shown on the nightly news broadcasts. It put the GOP in a difficult bind to explain the harshness of it’s primary rhetoric, towards immigration and proposals like the Dream Act. Marco Rubio has been the party’s most prominent Latino representative. The unpopularity of the GOP’s harsh immigration positions, have made his visibility even more important. Announcing that Romney was never even considering Marco Rubio was immediately seen as an insult and politically suicidal for a party, already suffering from the withering blows of rejection from the Latino community.
Stunned by the ignorance of such an obvious political error, party leaders from Michele Bachman onward, urged the Romney campaign to rethink Rubio. In the last 18 minutes, Mitt Romney has suddenly announced that he is indeed vetting Marco Rubio. In response to claims that those in his own campaign were reporting that Rubio was not in contention, Romney said; “I can’t imagine who such people are, but I can tell you this: They know nothing about the vice presidential selection or evaluation process,” “The story was entirely false. Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process
When Arsenio Hall was blessed with victory on the celebrity apprentice, Worthy Magazine was one of the first publications to ask if that win, would secure a new late night talk show for the legend of urban talk. Apparently, network execs agreed with Worthy and have given the go ahead for a new ARSENIO HALL SHOW! The new show will be produced by CBS and will air between 10pm and 11pm at night. Hall has a steep hill to climb. This time slot places him in direct competition with the Daily Show, Jay Leno and in some markets, David Letterman who is also on the CBS Network. It’s not clear how Letterman feels about his own network engineering the competition but Hall is enthused. He argues that there is a space for his show and brand of comedy.
We send out Worthy Well Wishes to Arsenio. As one of the funniest men in comedy, this is a well deserved and long awaited return to prime time.
Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled it’s new line of Windows 8 Tablets. The reaction thus far, has been nothing short of ecstatic. The tech community was thoroughly impressed by Microsoft’s creation in part because previous tablets have been such a tremendous let down. Microsoft began the unveiling in an uncharacteristically stylish way. The influence of Apple’s Steve Jobs and his style of presenting was all over the event. But Microsoft hasn’t just taken tips on presentation from Apple, they have also clearly learned a great deal about Product design from the industry leader. The Microsoft Surface is a sleek, reworking of the entire tablet concept. In some ways it accepts the traditional patterns of tablet design and in other ways, its entirely revolutionary.
The Microsoft Surface is encased in a magnesium frame; the first tablet to be shelled in such a material. This makes the design rigid, sturdy and polished. Embedded in the actual frame is a royal kickstand that protrudes from the device, instantly making it a transformer of sorts. All reports indicate that its going to take a small hurricane to bole over the Microsoft tablet. Ofcourse, this is hyperboly, but it highlights the way in which Microsoft has addressed a standard problem with Apple’s tablet. Stability has been an issue. Even with Apple’s elegant case, one is constantly aware of, if not in fear of, the threat of tipping over the device. This problem is solved by Microsoft’s Magneseum case and its built in stand. Adding to the innovation is a case or cover that actually serves a purpose. In the past, Apple’s cover has been derided as little more than an aesthetic add on. It served no real purpose. It could double as a stand, but beyond that it was entirely vestigial. Microsoft’s case, on the other hand is no thicker than Apple’s and yet it is also the device’s keyboard. Embedded in the paper thin case is a QWERTY keyboard with an accelerometer that senses the fingers motions. It is rumored to facilitate faster typing then any comparable keyboard. This solves the annoyance some users feel when asked to type on tablets. Some users simply hate Apple’s disdain for physical keyboards.
And there we have it. All of the buzz surrounds this tiny innovation of a colorful, paper thin, smart-keyboard.
The Windows 8 operating system took a backseat to the keyboard but it is also among the bonus features of a windows tablet. Business users have always lamented the IPAD’s lack of functionality. They have derided the tablet as a toy that cannot meet their daily business demands. Real business people, need Flash. They need documents that cross platforms. They need files and attachments. In short, they need a tablet thoroughly integrated in the Windows ecosystem, which dominates the business landscape. Microsoft, with its dual camera tablet, solves many of these issues.
If it sounds like the world is making too much of a silly keyboard and yet another tablet, don’t be fooled. Microsoft has just officially changed the tablet game. For the first time since the XBOX, Microsoft is manufacturing it’s own hardware, which suggests that they didn’t trust the partners that license their software to make this tablet. The failure of all other previous tablets, clearly taught Microsoft that the tech community needed to see how a tablet should be designed.
The Microsoft Surface comes in two versions. There is the Microsoft RT-which will boast the new Metro inspired tiles of the new Windows 8 revision. It’s thinner then an IPAD and its 10.6 inch screen is longer which makes it even more ideal for watching movies. There is also Windows 8 Pro which is a heftier, machine with pen and writing compatibility. It will allow users to use the Metro Tiles or the traditional Windows set up. For those that are still unconvinced of the formidability of this device, we have attached Microsofts, stylish new commercial.
