Summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. In fact, you deserve to enjoy what’s left of it.

Recently, this teacher and journalist had a chance to experience The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida. And, I must admit, it was one of the highlights of my summer.

From fresh-prepared cocktails at the Hotel Bar, to perfectly prepared sushi rolls atMonkital, breakfast at Point Royal and even a poolside day by a cabanaand signature facial at the resort’s Spa, all of these experiences can be your right in time for back-to-school or even for a quick weekend Staycation.

On December 8, 2018 1PM-6PM, The Muse Experience will convert SeaFair Mega Yacht into a floating art installation designed to celebrate the supreme power of female creativity. The art installation will be showcasing a collection of artwork from both influential and emerging female artists. The featured artists, or the “muses,” will consist of internationally acclaimed artists such as Sarah Bahbah, Stepanie Bascone, Ashley Martelle, Kaylin Garcia, Tanaya Henry, Sukesha Ray, and Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmit.
While ‘The Muses Experience’ may be open to those who RSVP during the day, a private invitation-only gallery cruise will take place during the evening. The cruise will culminate in the commencement of the first annual “Doyenne Award.” In French, a doyenne is a woman who is the most respected or prominent in a particular field.
It’s that time of the year again. The season us locals love to hate but still find ourselves drawn to and well informed about. Art Basel is here ushering in creativity and chaos. The one-of-kind pieces you will stumble upon will leave you in awe and the traffic will keep you stuck. The congested highways and intersections have to be the least enjoyable aspect of an otherwise inspiring experience. Some of us have gotten navigation down to a science (parking garage + Uber/Lyft= survival). However, a new factor has been introduced.
Brightline will be offering a 2018 Art Basel Pass, perfect for those who want to avoid the infamous Basel traffic coming from West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale area. The pass includes four round trip passes from any station between December 6 and 9 for $100 in Smart service and $250 for Select service. Passes can be purchased at https://offers.gobrightline.com/offer/art-basel-pass/
The leading lady of the upcoming TV series Underground, Jurnee Smollett Bell, shared with Worthy Magazine the keys to a lasting relationship. The beautiful and talented actress has been enjoying the married life since 2010.
Be Honest And Open
“Your partner is not always going to know what you need. They are not mind readers. Sometimes as women we are afraid to ask for what we want, what pleases us. I think it is very important to communicate that with your partner.”
Continue To Date
“Continue to explore each other and find out things you didn’t know about the person. You two are forever growing and changing.”
Jurnee also shared with the magazine her plans for Valentine’s Day since she is currently traveling while celebrating Black History Month with Macy’s
“We have the day off. So we are going to spend it here in Miami.”
Her husband recently wrote a love song to celebrate Jurnee’s birthday (October 1st). Take a look at the music video, which was just released this month on the 12th.
“It’s a happy love song but the video explores the different sides of love. It shows the moments when you feel so apart,” Jurnee said.
Jorg Gray is a watchmaker that has garnered recent attention for its Presidential Collection of watches which have become popular as the preferred timepiece of President Obama and his Secret Service detail. Upon receiving the JG650083, the President’s reason for choosing this watch were apparent. The JG6500 is a simply gorgeous work of art with Japanese Chronograph movements, aviator styled embellishments, a sapphire crystal lens, stainless steel casing and an Italian crocodile leather strap. The Jorg Gray 6500 commands a stately presence while offering silent reassurance of it’s durability. The Rose Gold variant of the watch would make an excellent compliment to any suit at a state affair and stand firm under rugged conditions. As a reviewer, there is an obvious elephant in the room whenever a traditional watch is discussed. The Jorg Gray is obviously a luxury watch but some believe that we live in the era of the smartwatch. Consumers would not be faulted for comparing any watch to their favorite smartwatch brand. Smartwatches offer alerts and notifications. You can take calls, start cars, open hotel room doors and summon uber on smartwatches so why should consumers want a watch that “Only” tells the time? Some watch makers have expressed fear and trepidation at the comparison between smartwatches and “real watches”. The Jorg Gray 6500 has convinced me that watchmakers like Jorg Gray have very little to worry about. From the moment I was presented with the Jorg Gray, I instantly remembered why there is no comparison between smartwatches and “Real Watches”. I recall fellow reviewers gushing over the plain white box their Apple Watches arrived in but when I received my BiFold case for the JG 6500, I remembered what truly elegant packaging was all about. The black case is accented with silver trim and it opens with a slight bit of resistance, communicating that it’s contents were meant to be guarded. Once opened, the case (it is inadequate to call it a box) reveals the watch in all of its glory. The watch is presented like a fine piece of jewelery and it immediately dawned on me that this watch was of an heirloom quality. The crocodile leather band is stunning and caught my eye immediately. When I held the watch for the first time, I was impressed by the perfectly balanced heft of the device. The watch face measures 41mm and it’s thickness is 13.6mm. The watch feels sturdy but not heavy. At first, the watch feels substantial but eventually it’s heft seems to evaporate. The device fades into the wrist becoming the unobtrusive presence that watches should be for serious consumers. The watch boasts many of the tricks demanded by modernity but it shines as an elegant, understated example of timeless craftsmanship. The Rose GoldJ650083 has a transparent undercarriage that offers its owner a peek into the watch’s internal engineering and the sight is admittedly glorious. In the two weeks I spent with the JG 650083, I have once again fallen in love with the beauty of a watch. A great watch does not draw attention to itself. It doesn’t buzz and vibrate with busy notifications or flash like a neon sign on the Las Vegas strip. In comparing smartwatches to this “real watch” it became apparent to me that all of those “features” in certain settings become gaudy, intrusive and inelegant. A “Real Watch’s” beauty is reserved for those that the wearer brings in closely. It is a finerdetail or a punctuation point for a wardrobe. It is versatile and equally appropriate for meetings or social gatherings. For those I allowed to see the watch, it provokes an audible “Wow” but for those I choose to keep at bay, it never begs for attention. The essence of luxury is choicea choice in where I can wear the device, a choice in how many outfits it can compliment and a choice in whom I allow into my personal space to enjoy it with me. The comparison between smartwatches and luxury watches is so inappropriate that it borders on the grotesque. The simple difference is in quality. It is in the way that one feels when this masculine, expertly crafted time piece serves as an accent that completes your presentation in personal and professional settings. Smartwatches have their place, in gyms and other functions but they cannot be compared to watches like the JG 6500, Presidential Timepiece. Why should consumers settle for smartwatches that appear reminiscent of “real watches” when they could simply obtain a “real watch”? I highly recommend the JG 650083 as a Worthy Purchase and at $895 it is an affordable luxury Worthy of the World’s Leader.
For the past 20 years, Jeb Bush has held his annual Florida Classic in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 20th Annual JEB BUSH Florida Classic Events is sponsored by The Wasie Foundation and presented by AT&T, BB&T, Ford and Premier Beverage this November 19-21, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In the past 20 years, the JEB BUSH Florida Classic has raised nearly $7.5 million to help support the research and care programs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event has advanced from a one-day golf tournament into a three-day event that includes the famous BeachBash, a fishing tournament, golf tournament and the 65 Roses Gala. The event is now one of the largest fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s South Florida Office.
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe. People with CF are constantly at risk for respiratory failure and lung damage, as their bodies lose the ability to break down food. “I am so thankful to all of our supporters and sponsors who will be joining us for this extraordinary three-day event which I hope will raise significant funds that will be used to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” said Former Florida Governor/Honorary Chairman Jeb Bush. “It is a great privilege to serve as honorary chairman of this event and be associated with this tremendous non-profit organization which works tirelessly to search for a cure and research new treatment for cystic fibrosis.”
The weekend kicks off with BeachBash on Thursday, November 19 from 7-10:30 p.m. at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Individual tickets begin at $100 and include hors d’oeuvres, open bar and entertainment.
This year’s golf tournament will take place at the exclusive Fort Lauderdale Country Club and begins with a delicious breakfast and photo opportunity with Jeb Bush. Each golfer has the opportunity to win fabulous prizes, as well as going home with a first-class goody bag. The golf outing will conclude with a complimentary lunch and silent auction, tickets starting at $500.
The fishing tournament’s Captain’s Meeting and Angler Registration will be on Thursday, November 19 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. The competition itself will take place on Saturday, November 21 at the Bahia Mar DoubleTree by Hilton. Tickets to compete in the fishing tournament begin at $2,500 and you must bring your own boat.
The 65 Roses Gala will take place on Friday, November 20 at The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. The event kicks off with a Cocktail Reception featuring a Silent Auction, and includes dinner, entertainment and a live auction to follow. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Jeb Bush and be dazzled by the entertainment of the evening. Tickets for the 65 Roses Gala begin at $500.
Other ticket options are available that include entrance to other events throughout the weekend and VIP access, as well as sponsorship opportunities. When we sat down for a quick chat with the super busy Shalita Grant, we were pleased to hear that her answers to our questions were just as bold as her character on the hit series NCIS New Orleans, which has returned for a second season. In Season two we watch Shalita’s character, Sonja Percy, adapt to working as the newest agent alongside Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) and his top notch NCIS team. Our exclusive interview allowed us to see a side of the talented actress that you seldom get to experience with actresses of her caliber. If you don’t know Shalita, you will want to know her by the end of this interview, which you will be able to read more of in our upcoming issue. For now read a few fun facts that she shared with us that most of her fans don’t know about her yet.
1. “I don’t live with a television,” the actress said.
That explains her super awesome Instagram videos showing her 5:30 a.m. workouts. They really make us feel like we are failing at life.
2. “I have started working on my music. The sound is being fine tuned. It is more like a true blues sound.”
3. ” I am the oldest of nine children.”
4. “I love partying. Give me a beat and let me twerk.”
5. “I have spent my whole life trying to feel worthy. I am worthy because my unworthiness is not enough to make me stop trying. It is not strong enough.”
When we asked her for her best pitch about why you should be watching NCIS New Orleans Tuesday nights at 9 central time, it was a simple formula for her.
“If you love action, the first seven episodes have some crazy insane stunts, you should be watching. There is amazing team work. It is quirky and you gotta love Scott Bakula. Watch the show,” Shalita said.
We told you that you would love her. Shalita will also have a reoccurring role on the upcoming public television mini-series, “Mercy Street.”
While our love for all things cultural has afforded us a fair amount of diverse experiences, the Singapore massage at Turnberry Isle Spa (19999 West Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180) stands as a truly unique experience that we had not encountered until our visit at the Miami spa.
The signature massage draws on three cultural experiences that come together to expel fatigue and rid the body of daily stresses and tensions. The unique element of the signature massage is the progressive abdomen (Malaysian method) massage.
“It is the only massage that also massages and works on the stomach,” Turnberry massage therapist, Pillar, shared with the magazine. “It does exactly what the description says it does. It expels fatigue. This is a massage for a super busy person whose mind is always occupied with what else they need to be working on as they are working on something else. This massage will make you feel present,” She said followed by a warm smile.
For Talene Sanchez, an on-the-go office manager, the idea of expelling fatigue and finally having a massage that pays attention to an often overlooked area was all it took for her to request the massage.
“I carry my stress in my stomach,” Talene said. “When I get overwhelmed and overworked, I feel it in my stomach. So the Singapore massage stood out to me just for the abdomen massage. I enjoyed the entire experience. After the massage, I felt like I was floating. I was so refreshed and so relaxed.”
Back tensions are skillfully worked out using a Chinese massage method. Body heat is eliminated by stimulating the foot’s reflex zones using a Kansu bowl (Indian massage method). The entire experience lasts for 50 minutes and is extremely relaxing and calming.
The massage is priced at $149. To make a reservation call 305-933-6930. Visit the site.
Additional noteworthy elements.
Turnberry Spa offers a number of features that elevate their services from a simple treatment to an experience. There is a 24 hour gym complete with a number fitness classes ranging from pilates to yoga and a juice bar equipped with Onjuice cold pressed juices, kale chips and coconut granola to name a few items.

Swim Week has ended as quickly as it began leaving us with many memories of the shows that we attended. While it is almost impossible to escape the uniformity of trends and colors, we were happy to see that every designer that we saw found a clever way to stay on trend and unique to their own aesthetic. So here are a few of our observations paired with a few pictures of our favorite looks from our favorite shows.
1. Sinesia Karol
Location: The Setai Hotel
Day: Friday July 17th 8 p.m.
Possibly our favorite show. Sinesia brought us the best of summer with her gorgeous couture swim suits and resort wear. She embraced the warm purple and golds of the upcoming season but she also introduced light warm blues pairing beautiful textures with luxurious fabrics. We sat among her friends and family as even they whispered:
“I think that this is her best collection yet.”
Being that the designer is a prominent fixture in our current issue, we can’t help but admit that we love everything that the designer provides in all of her collections. True to her aesthetic, it was not about shocking her audience, which consisted of the who’s who, with loud colors and patterns. The poetry is always in the collection’s design. Her looks were effortless, elegant, enchanting and yet intricate. Her closing piece left us all in an editorial summer daze. Like we could imagine having that suit on the digital pages of Worthy right now.
2. Keva J
Location: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel South Beach
Day: Saturday July 18th 2-4 p.m.
The upcoming season seems to be a sharp cry from last season, which opted for dark colors, textured swim suits with long sleeves. For the upcoming season we can look forward to vibrant colors we are happy that purple and gold stayed and that black will never depart. Keva J gave us all the colors of the upcoming season. Her unique signature was that her suits were layered and cut to perfection with perfectly placed muted gray and white swim pieces. We lost count of the gasps of excitement her audience accounted for. Did we mention that Eva Marcelle was in attendance and loved the pieces?
3. Liliana Montoya
Location: Funksion Tent
Day: Thursday: 6 p.m.
What we love about this designer is her ability to make every collection unique and signature to a specific season. What we saw last year was very different from what we saw this year. Down to the cut of her suits and her color choices. Her looks were the perfect mermaid oasis complete with Dash of Flash tattoos. Vibrant, intrinsic and dreamy are the words we would use to describe her collection.
4. Lila Nikole
Location: 1 Hotel South Beach
Day: Sunday 6 p.m.
Calling in one of our favorite worthy women of 2014, Lila Nikole offered up a show that hypnotically trendy and signature. We loved the conscious choice to showcase one piece swim suits paired with playful, fashion forward sneakers from Kruzin footware.
5. Anita Rincon
Location: Riviera Hotel South Beach
Day: Sunday 2-4 p.m.
This was the collection for the curvy and confident woman. Purples, dark greens and golds glistened in the summer haze by the pool at the Riviera Hotel in South Beach. The designer paired her looks with one of a kind accessories from Erica Mena’s accessory collection, HER. We loved every detail.
