WHO CAN BEAT THE APPLE WATCH

News

Apple_Watch_edition_Red_band

Who can conquer the Apple Watch? Pebble, Sony, Microsoft, Casio, and Tag Heuer all have new editions planned or recent editions released as responses to the Apple Watch. But there is one company that could make a truly compelling competitor to the Apple Watch. The company best positioned for combat with Apple is AMAZON! The online-store has released a failed smartphone which may have tainted it’s appetite for the mobile space but the company has also released an incredible new offering that is getting rave reviews from the only people that really matter: it’ USERS!
The Amazon Echo is essentially a bluetooth speaker that is tied to a smart-virtual assistant. Think Siri-for your house. You can ask it questions, order it to compile lists, ask it to read the news- etc. When it was announced, the world of tech journalists collectively chuckled! They laughed at Amazon’s echo as if the company spray-painted a pringles can and put it on the market. It was the products early adopters that proved how useful the echo could be. Now you can order echo to turn on your home’s lights and it seems poised to become the living embodiment of IRON MAN’s Jarvis!

Despite it’s potential, Echo has one limitation, the speaker is stationary. You must be in the same room as JARVIS (I mean Echo) to use it. You can’t use it in other rooms without carrying around a Remote Control that sinks with Echo (which is clearly not an elegant solution). There are no satellite speakers for use in other rooms and once you leave your house Echo doesn’t exist. But what if Amazon released a smartwatch with a simple app that allowed you to interface with JARVIS- (I mean Echo) in other rooms or even away from home. A Wifi-enabled smartwatch seems like an obvious solution. Rumors have suggested for a long-time that Amazon wanted to release a free iphone competitor or something close to free that could be offered with Prime Memberships. A Free phone was never realized but at less than a quarter of the size, and only $83.70 to make, the Apple Watch or hopefully AMAZON WATCH could be cheaper to manufacture and bundle with prime memberships than the FIRE TABLET (currently offered with Prime Memberships). Most importantly, Echo would go everywhere it’s users go, giving Amazon the kind of access you would need to a user’s life to build the world’s first truly brilliant- smart assistant (JARVIS).

The Return of John Galliano

Pending the rumored changes to institutions like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, fashion critics and enthusiasts alike are witnessing the fight for the exclusivity of the fashion industry. Maison Margiela Artisanal 2015 couture spring collection was a return to that old-fashioned invite-only experience. It was also the stage for John Galliano’s triumphant return to the runway.
There were only three photographers in the photography pit, including one in-house photographer. Paparazzi was not allowed inside to document celeb sightings such as Kate Moss and designers including, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Manolo Blahnik and Rifat Ozbek to name a few.

mmm 05

The show is being praised as the perfect marriage between Galliano’s signature aesthetic and Maison Margiela.

From the the ornate use of tulle dramatically draped on the models who glided down the runway to their crystal-kissed lips that paired seamlessly with their drag-queen inspired makeup, the show was the perfect fashion fantasy.

Margiela emailed show notes immediately following the show. While there is some debate as to his reasoning for sending out his notes instead of the tradional behind the scenes interview, the general concensus is that the designer wanted to convey a clear explanation of his creative process. His sentiments illustrated a story of discovery and renewal.

“Approaching tailoring, techniques, craftsmanship like a new explorer, or painter. One who sees beauty in things that are often taken for granted, giving everything a newly enriched life.”

Zac Posen to Present Fall 2014 Collection at SHUZZ ART FASHION Show on March 22nd in Boca Raton, FL

When fashion and a worthy cause collide, we simply can’t hide our excitement. Philanthropists and fashion enthusiasts will be gathered together on March 22nd at the Signature Flight Support in Boca Raton to see Zac Posen’s Fall 2014 collection and to raise funds for The SHUZZ Fund, which is a non-profit organization that provides shoes to children in poverty-stricken areas. In the four years since its inception, SHUZZ Fund has donated tens of thousands of shoes to underprivileged children in the United States, Haiti, Japan, Guatemala, Nepal, Jamaica and Venezuela.

Now with their latest initiative to continue to raise funds for their noble cause,  The SHUZZ Fund has enlisted an all-star roster of sponsors.

“This event would not be possible without tremendous support from Zac Posen, Neiman Marcus and our long list of sponsors – including Celebrity Cruises, Mercedes-Benz, Signature Flight Support and many more,” said Rita Lombardo, Founder, SHUZZ Fund. “Myself, SHUZZ Event Chairs – Dr. Megan Jack, Sara Maynoldi and Luis Prieto, and the entire 2014 SHUZZ Committee are extremely proud of what the organization has been able to accomplish in its startup years and look forward to celebrating success while increasing our ability to continue making an impact during SHUZZ | ART | FASHION in March.”

With support from Neiman Marcus, the 2014 event is on track to raise more than $250,000, 100 percent of which will be given directly to relief efforts to donate shoes to children in impoverished communities internationally.

Always true to MIA form, the artist does the perfect job of killing you kindly with style without being a slave to fashion. Three Reasons We Love Kerry Washington On Lucky

Culture, Editorial, Fashion, News

KERRY-WASHINGTON-LUCKY-570

We have noticed that people have had a lot to say about Kerry Washington’s latest cover. While the general consensus is that this is not her strongest cover, we love the statement that the cover makes and that alone makes it beautiful to us.  So we compiled three reasons as to why the public should not be so quick as to file this cover away in the “hated it” category.

It’s Different

Most covers and editorials capture just the beauty of Kerry. We have to applaud Lucky for capturing her quirky, vibrant and equally beautiful personality. We seldom see too many editorials that don’t photograph as her the elegant sex kitten. We love Kerry and Lucky for giving us something fresh.

Natural Beauty

Kerry is holding down the cover with what appears to be her own hair with no help from long, curled and tousled tresses. Most cover girls of all ethnic backgrounds have a little help from extensions. It says a lot about the actress’s natural beauty to be on the cover of a magazine rocking her own hair. We feel like it aligns with new Editor-in-Chief’s goal to make a statement with each issue. Using Eva Mendes for the American Style Issue was pure genius.

A little says a lot

We think Kerry is strikingly beautiful. It was refreshing to see her with a natural face of make-up. The make-up is bright and light and very reflective of the upcoming season. It paid homage to the everyday “face”  that most women wear.

Overall it just says a lot that we live in a culture that tells us to celebrate our natural beauty and the moment a cover surfaces that does just that we have nothing but negative things to say. The world knows how beautiful this woman is. Give her the chance to show different sides of her beauty.

Always Rock Your Confident Shoes

Featured

Shoes are the staple of your outfit. They have the incredible ability to transform any look, and the right pair breeds confidence because you know you’re looking good when you strut around at your favorite event. You’re rocking those bad boys (or girls) and you know it. People are eying your swag, and you just can’t get enough.

Maybe you love those sneaks that you’ve been parading in since freshman year, or maybe you get a new pair of five inch heels every few months (or weeks), or maybe you just have to have those epic flats that remind you of Disney princesses. Whatever shoe you choose, it’s a shoe that brings you confidence and one that truly represents yourself.

The exact same outfit can be completely changed with the right shoes, allowing you to flaunt your varying moods whenever you so choose–professional, casual, or fashionista-to-the-max. If you’re going out after work with the girls or out on a date with your latest flame or longtime boo, swap out your pointed-toe black three inch heels for some studded red pumps or a pair of leopard-print flats, and viola, you’ve transformed yourself from successful business woman to drop dead gorgeous trendsetter.

Whether you are the sneakers type, the stilettos type, or even the type who doesn’t pay attention to what shoes you wear, know and realize that you are one with your shoes and that great shoes can significantly boost your confidence. Shoes are the most important element of any outfit and they can change your ensemble from cool and casual to eccentric and high fashion or anything in between.

Ultimately, your favorite pair of shoes will radiate your innermost personality, so choose instinctively.

These Alessia Solari sandals make us feel like we can take on the world! Which shoes make you feel confident?

Noteworthy Show Mara Hoffman

Culture, Editorial, Fashion, Featured

In the hustle and bustle of the Mercedes-Benz Swim Week craze, there are few shows that are worth the long lines, disorganized guest lists and stifling heat. Mara Hoffman is one of the featured designers who delivers a high-energy, deliciously chic show every time. Hoffman’s fans who lined up outside of the Raleigh were not disappointed this year. Psychedelic classic pieces sashayed down the runway and played perfectly off the ornate  L-Atititude accessories that completed the signature Mara Hoffman aesthetic. Classic label essentials converged on the runway at the Hoffman swim show with shoes provided by Michael Antonio, nails by LVX, make-up by Lori Taylor for Smashbox and hair by Nick Irwin for Catwalk by Tigi. The stylist for the evening was Richard Ruiz and we must say we approved of the wonderfully bohemian chic look that was presented.

Check out the pictures from the show.
