Olive + Piper Noteworthy Style

Editor's Journal, Fashion, Featured

Olive + Piper, a fun and playful online jewelry boutique and collection, started from a dream and a few risky decisions. Founder Tania Yan grew up as a quiet and artistic young child, immersing herself in her studies, ballet, singing and piano. Like most young girls, Tania made her own beaded accessories, including jewelry and headbands, to express her own individual style. Taking a detour in college, Tania found herself studying cell biology and genetics, and it wasn’t until after graduation where she worked at a large ecommerce company that Tania was inspired to work with fashion jewelry. With a desire to start her own business, a personal fashion blog and a passion for designing, Olive + Piper was born.

imageOlive + Piper officially launched in October 2012, selling curated pieces made ethically in China. But Tania soon developed a bigger dream, a dream to design her own pieces. She began creating inspiration boards, sketching her designs and envisioning what they would look like. In the past year, Olive + Piper launched three new collections, all designed in-house, with more than 30 styles in multiple color variations. All pieces are inspired by Tania’s every day life, including color schemes or patterns she is exposed to.

Olive + Piper aspires to help ambitious girls feel edgy and daring all while staying true to oneself. Tania thrives on the idea of individuality and boldness, two elements seen in each piece. Olive + Piper’s mission is to CREATE a guilty pleasure fashion lovers fall in love with, to SHARE its love and passion for the “sparklier things in life,” and to INSPIRE the world to explore and celebrate individual style. The expressive jewelry line aims to help girls everywhere feel confident and successful, while still being conscious of their bank accounts

Olive + Piper reflects its mission through the charming collections they offer. The accessories range from casual to formal, and any piece can be found for every occasion. All hardware is made with 14k gold-plated metals and glass, acrylic or semi-precious stone embellishments. Trustworthy: Jorg Gray

Editor's Journal, Editorial, Fashion, Featured, Lifestyle

JG6500-83_3Q

Jorg Gray is a watchmaker that has garnered recent attention for its Presidential Collection of watches which have become popular as the preferred timepiece of President Obama and his Secret Service detail. Upon receiving the JG650083, the President’s reason for choosing this watch were apparent. The JG6500 is a simply gorgeous work of art with Japanese Chronograph movements, aviator styled embellishments, a sapphire crystal lens, stainless steel casing and an Italian crocodile leather strap. The Jorg Gray 6500 commands a stately presence while offering silent reassurance of it’s durability. The Rose Gold variant of the watch would make an excellent compliment to any suit at a state affair and stand firm under rugged conditions. As a reviewer, there is an obvious elephant in the room whenever a traditional watch is discussed. The Jorg Gray is obviously a luxury watch but some believe that we live in the era of the smartwatch. Consumers would not be faulted for comparing any watch to their favorite smartwatch brand. Smartwatches offer alerts and notifications. You can take calls, start cars, open hotel room doors and summon uber on smartwatches so why should consumers want a watch that “Only” tells the time? Some watch makers have expressed fear and trepidation at the comparison between smartwatches and “real watches”. The Jorg Gray 6500 has convinced me that watchmakers like Jorg Gray have very little to worry about. From the moment I was presented with the Jorg Gray, I instantly remembered why there is no comparison between smartwatches and “Real Watches”. I recall fellow reviewers gushing over the plain white box their Apple Watches arrived in but when I received my BiFold case for the JG 6500, I remembered what truly elegant packaging was all about. The black case is accented with silver trim and it opens with a slight bit of resistance, communicating that it’s contents were meant to be guarded. Once opened, the case (it is inadequate to call it a box) reveals the watch in all of its glory. The watch is presented like a fine piece of jewelery and it immediately dawned on me that this watch was of an heirloom quality. The crocodile leather band is stunning and caught my eye immediately. When I held the watch for the first time, I was impressed by the perfectly balanced heft of the device. The watch face measures 41mm and it’s thickness is 13.6mm. The watch feels sturdy but not heavy. At first, the watch feels substantial but eventually it’s heft seems to evaporate. The device fades into the wrist becoming the unobtrusive presence that watches should be for serious consumers. The watch boasts many of the tricks demanded by modernity but it shines as an elegant, understated example of timeless craftsmanship. The Rose GoldJ650083 has a transparent undercarriage that offers its owner a peek into the watch’s internal engineering and the sight is admittedly glorious. In the two weeks I spent with the JG 650083, I have once again fallen in love with the beauty of a watch. A great watch does not draw attention to itself. It doesn’t buzz and vibrate with busy notifications or flash like a neon sign on the Las Vegas strip. In comparing smartwatches to this “real watch” it became apparent to me that all of those “features” in certain settings become gaudy, intrusive and inelegant. A “Real Watch’s” beauty is reserved for those that the wearer brings in closely. It is a finerdetail or a punctuation point for a wardrobe. It is versatile and equally appropriate for meetings or social gatherings. For those I allowed to see the watch, it provokes an audible “Wow” but for those I choose to keep at bay, it never begs for attention. The essence of luxury is choicea choice in where I can wear the device, a choice in how many outfits it can compliment and a choice in whom I allow into my personal space to enjoy it with me. The comparison between smartwatches and luxury watches is so inappropriate that it borders on the grotesque. The simple difference is in quality. It is in the way that one feels when this masculine, expertly crafted time piece serves as an accent that completes your presentation in personal and professional settings. Smartwatches have their place, in gyms and other functions but they cannot be compared to watches like the JG 6500, Presidential Timepiece. Why should consumers settle for smartwatches that appear reminiscent of “real watches” when they could simply obtain a “real watch”? I highly recommend the JG 650083 as a Worthy Purchase and at $895 it is an affordable luxury Worthy of the World’s Leader.

Five Financial New Years Resolutions

Editor's Journal, Editorial, Featured

With a new year comes a new opportunity to start fresh and begin 2016 on the right foot. Many people chose to make a new year’s resolution which may include eating healthy, losing weight, etc. But what about another habit that will benefit us all in the long run?: Planning for the financial future.

We sat down with Joe Eppy, Founder and President of The Eppy Group, a leading financial financial firm committed to protecting their clients and community and he shed light on some Financial New Years Resolutions we should all be adding to our list!

Set Measurable Goals. Set specific goals with measurable results. Instead of saying I want to save money or pay of debt, say I want to save $5000 this year or I want to pay off 80% of my debt.

Budget. To be able to better manage your finances you need to plan ahead. Don’t spend more than what you make and most importantly, remember to save. There are several apps that can help you stick within your monthly budget to keep your finances on track.

Review Your Credit. You get one free credit report per year and the best part is you don’t have to pull all three credit bureaus at the same time. Unless you are making a big purchase such as a home or car, you can spread it out throughout the year to monitor any changes.

Monthly self-evalutation. Sit down at the end of each month and go over bank / credit card statements. Look for areas of improvement, and also measure success on meeting goals.

Educate Yourself. Select and meet with a financial advisor you trust. Many people feel they don’t make enough to have a financial advisor, that is simply not true and the value they bring to the table will exponentially benefit your long term game plan. Googling and reading blogs just simply doesn’t cut it when you’re financial future is at stake.

There are a lot of things in life you can’t control. Luckily, your finances doesn’t need to be one of them. Set some goals, write them and make 2016 the best year yet!

Trustworthy: Erimish Bracelet Bar

Editor's Journal

We love to spotlight designers and products that are all about being effortlessly beautiful and useful. So we are pretty excited to share our love for Erimish. Erimish Bracelet Bar launched earlier this year to provide women of all ages a unique and refreshing way of styling their jewelry. The affordable stackable bracelets are made to mix-and-match to create everything from Bohemian to sophisticated looks.

The concept behind the bracelet bar began in Erimish’s own boutique. The sisters wanted to give customers the opportunity to create their own stacks as a unique reflection of the person wearing them. With over 1000 different styles of bracelets, there are endless possibilities.

Each bracelet is inspired by everyday life, whether it be the clothing you wear or the places you traveled to this past summer, the people you’ve met or memories you’ve made.

“There’s no one set place that we go to for inspiration,” says co-founder Misha Wilson. “We could see a color combination, just walking down the street, and then get inspired to create a whole new collection,” sister Ericka Hamilton explains.

Materials are brought in from all over the world to create these beautiful one-of-a-kind bracelets. Both synthetic and natural stones are used to help create a clean and classic look with a bold and daring edge. Natural stones include Agate, Druzy, Amazonite, Pyrite and Moonstone, while the synthetic styles include a mix of Gold Vermeil pieces and Czech crystal. Although the stones come from all over, the bracelets themselves are made in India, China or the United States, depending on the materials being used.

The beauty of Erimish’s bracelets is that they are timeless and unique. No matter what age, all women will have the ability to mix-and-match their stacks to match their own personal style. Mom’s can choose a bracelet to represent each child; teenagers can get one for each friend; wear a different stack for every holiday; the possibilities are endless.

Get to know Erimish

1.  What is the dynamic like between two sisters owning a business?
Well as you can imagine, siblings working together..LOL WE actual work well together. Ericka is more bling and Misha is more Matte…if that makes sense? We are both very versatile. We can hang with the guys and we can glam it up!
2.  What is your favorite piece (or stack) from the collection?
Misha-My favorite stack is by far the Harlow Stack! I have a few new favorites coming out in spring 2016 but I can’t name them yet.
Ericka-My fave is Winter
3.  How would you dress it up?  How would you dress it down?
Harlow and Winter both are perfect with jeans and a tee or a nice dress. The thing is, our stacks are so versatile. WE add in the ribbon pieces for the boho flair for a jeans and tee kinda day and then they can be taken out, so you can dress them up and the more sophisticated pieces can be worn alone.
5.  If you could have any celebrity wear your pieces, who would it be?  Who is the perfect representation the Erimish look?
Jessica Biel- She is so fun. She can be one of the boys but she can also let her feminine side show!
6.  If you could give yourselves one piece of advice before starting the line, what would it be?
Don’t take the no’s hard and know there will be a zillion knows before there are yes’s.

Erimish just recently launched their sixth and latest collection for the winter season, adding to the spring/summer, fall, resort, game-day and kids collections. Current pieces are available for purchase in select boutiques or their online store at http://www.erimish.com.

NOTEWORTHY ARTIST ELLIS MARTIN

Editor's Journal

Ellis Martin

Unapologetically blunt and confident, Ellis Martin is an artist who has captured our attention. His signature sound finds its groove in classic Motown soul while being amplified in the modern melodic vibrations of EDM.

“Growing up, my parents played everything under the sun. Puccini, Sam Cooke, Debussy, Led Zeppelin, The Supremes, Bob Dylan, Santana, the Beatles. I would sit on the floor in front of the speakers and just listen for hours. It would throw me into another world. When I started creating music, I drew inspiration from every genre and style imaginable. That is why it is difficult to put my music under a particular category,” Ellis said.

We were all too excited to sit down with the man behind the sound to discuss the details of his seductive and bold EP titled “Pornotopia” produced and co-written by Jidenna and hear his honest opinion about the current state of music.

What is your take on music now in this era?

My take on music in this era is that it is not music. It is senseless noise; trash; a cacophony of electronic madness. Musicians used to be good at music. Now, they’re good at Instagram. I find myself on the verge of tears whenever I go to a club and hear some techno or dubstep song that literally has no melody, no chords and no consistent rhythm. And, to the detriment of all culture, it is being considered “music”. In the 60s and 70s, there were literally hundreds of legendary artists. Since 2000, I can pretty much count them on one hand. That is a crisis of epic proportions. Music is dying, and it needs salvation.

emannoyed

What inspired you to write/create your latest single “Pornotopia?”

Pornotopia, both the song and as an EP, emerged less from inspiration and more from frustration; a sort of anti-inspiration, if you will. Just leaving my house and walking around the streets, looking at billboards, watching commercials, flipping on the radio. Pornotopia was everywhere, and I could not escape it. So I figured I had two choices: commit suicide, or write a song about it. And I’m happy to say that I chose the latter. The Pornotopia EP is not a statement against porn. It’s not even about porn. It’s about the act of pornification, which I define as the cheapening and degradation of something sacred in order to make a quick buck. And in 21st century America, pornification is happening everywhere and always.

Who was your inspiration growing up?

I grew up idolizing Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. They were fearless leaders committed to an unwavering cause, and capable of inspiring the highest devotion and faith in their followers. I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to lead, to speak my mind without hesitation and to take upon myself the greatest risks possible in order to inspire others to take up the cause. These feelings began at a very early age, long before I became a musician, and are due in large part to the impact that Malcolm and Martin had on me.

What was it like growing up on the south side of Chicago?

Well, I’m a Cubs fan, so many southsiders would consider me a traitor. But aside from that, it was a blessing to be born and raised in the greatest city in America. In the 1990s, the south side was not the best place to be. I grew up in the Bronzeville neighborhood, which was a major heroin spot. Gang violence was always prevalent, so my parents did the best they could to shield me and my brother from that. But they were careful not to insulate us so much that we were in a bubble of comfort. I lived in one of the worst neighborhoods in the country, but went to one of the best schools in the country. I’m fortunate to have experienced both.

Was music always something you wanted to do?

I always loved to create music, and was born with a natural gift for hearing melodies. But I did not consider being a musician until I was in high school. I never wanted to be a pop star or celebrity. Not that I am against it. I just never had it as a goal. What was most important to me was creating great music, and proving to the world that great music and pop music are not mutually exclusive.

Who/what inspired your music?

Growing up, my parents played everything under the sun. That is why it is difficult to put my music under a particular category. For example, Just Like a Baby is a blend of pop, doo-wop, reggae, hip-hop and hard rock, whereas “Pornotopia” draws heavily from Chicago soul, country, Sinatra-esque crooning and even opera. Whatever gives me goosebumps becomes immediate inspiration.

According to your biography, you are a traditional man. What are your thoughts on love/relationships/marriage in this era?

I am a traditional man in many ways. I’ve always wanted to be with, and love one woman. There is something powerful and meaningful about companionship. But media likes to glorify the idea of a single man having sex with a lot of beautiful women. At the same time, media encourages girls to find their perfect Prince Charming who will treat them like a queen until the end of time. Men and women are being fed polar opposite ideals, and this inevitably leads to relationship issues. And with divorce rates in America rising above 50 percent, I think we can clearly see the negative impact of these competing desires. Marriage has become nothing more than a fun opportunity to have an expensive wedding. When people get even slightly tired of each other, they immediately bail and find someone new. It’s really a shame.

Are you married/in a relationship?

Yes, I’m in a relationship with a smart and beautiful woman. We’ve been together for about 2 years. We’ve had our fair share of fights, but they’ve gotten more rare because we are determined to figure out, and solve the underlying problems. In order for a relationship to work, you have to work on your relationship. And it’s hard work sometimes, but definitely worth it in my opinion. Love is the purpose of life.

What artists do you have in mind to collab with or already plan to collab with?

I’d love to collaborate with Leon Bridges. He’s an amazing artist and brilliant songwriter. It would be a dream come true to work alongside him in the studio. I’m also a fan of Meghan Trainor, both the quality of her music and what she represents. She’s extremely creative in how she brings together doo wop, reggae and soul to create her own sound. She’s had an important influence over the development of my style.

Any hobbies you like to get into when you some down time?

I’m a pretty, damn good chess player. I love strategy and competition, and there is no greater game in my opinion. But I rarely find myself with any down time, so unfortunately, I’ve been playing less and less over the years. When I get old, I plan to switch to Bingo.

What do you want the world to get from your music?

I want the world to wake up and realize that they live in the new dark ages, in a place called Pornotopia. Everything is for sale. Nothing has value anymore. Americans only live to make money, and all the while, they absorb talentless trash that some dare to call “art”. I want the world to know that I’ve been sent to destroy Pornotopia. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, I think of nothing else. It’s time for someone to say, “Enough!” And I will proudly be that someone. Because the world deserves a culture they can be proud of.

FINISH THIS STATEMENT: “I AM WORTHY BECAUSE__________________”

I am worthy because I create my own destiny.

 Have a listen

Ferrari-Maserati of Fort Lauderdale will be transformed into an old-fashioned Italian circus soirée with traditional performers and antique decor. The evening of luxury will feature live entertainment including music and speed painting by Michael Israel, a 360-degree open bar, delicious cuisine compliments of The Capital Grille, a VIP lounge and additional catering including live sushi provided by Dapur Asian Tapas and Lounge, a whiskey bar by Heaven Hill Distilleries and a raffle for the chance to win a $5,000 shopping spree to JR Dunn. In 2011, two moms, Fiorenna Fuentes-Israel and Jennifer Miller-Smith, with daughters recently diagnosed with SMA, joined forces to create the Gala of Hope. Since inception, the Gala of Hope has been able to raise nearly $500,000 towards research funding and raising awareness.

Spinal muscular atrophy is a group of inherited diseases that cause muscle damage and weakness, which worsen over time and eventually lead to death. The destruction of nerves that control voluntary muscle movement decreases the ability to crawl, walk, swallow, and control the head and neck. One in every 10,000 babies is born with the disease and one in every 50 people carries the gene that causes SMA. There is currently not a cure or any treatment.

Tickets are $150 per person or $300 for VIP with all proceeds benefitting Cure SMA.  To purchase tickets or for event sponsorship information please visit http://events.curesma.org/5thGalaofHopeSFL.

About Cure SMA

Cure SMA is dedicated to the treatment and cure of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)—a disease that takes away a person’s ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants.

Since 1984, we’ve directed and invested in comprehensive research that has shaped the scientific community’s understanding of SMA. We are currently on the verge of breakthroughs in treatment that will strengthen our children’s bodies, extend life, and lead to a cure. We have deep expertise in every aspect of SMA—from the day-to-day realities to the nuances of care options—and until we have a cure, we’ll do everything we can to support children and families affected by the disease.  Learn more about how you can help us reach a treatment and cure at www.cureSMA.org.

Turnberry Isle Spa The Singapore Massage

Culture, Editor's Journal, Fashion, Featured, Lifestyle, News, Worthy Places

15TrbyGlfPool020While our love for all things cultural has afforded us a fair amount of diverse experiences, the Singapore massage at Turnberry Isle Spa (19999 West Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180) stands as a truly unique experience that we had not encountered until our visit at the Miami spa.

The signature massage draws on three cultural experiences that come together to expel fatigue and rid the body of daily stresses and tensions. The unique element of the signature massage is the progressive abdomen (Malaysian method) massage.

“It is the only massage that also massages and works on the stomach,” Turnberry massage therapist, Pillar, shared with the magazine. “It does exactly what the description says it does. It expels fatigue. This is a massage for a super busy person whose mind is always occupied with what else they need to be working on as they are working on something else. This massage will make you feel present,” She said followed by a warm smile.

For Talene Sanchez, an on-the-go office manager, the idea of expelling fatigue and finally having a massage that pays attention to an often overlooked area was all it took for her to request the massage.

“I carry my stress in my stomach,” Talene said. “When I get overwhelmed and overworked, I feel it in my stomach. So the Singapore massage stood out to me just for the abdomen massage. I enjoyed the entire experience. After the massage, I felt like I was floating. I was so refreshed and so relaxed.”

Back tensions are skillfully worked out using a Chinese massage method. Body heat is eliminated by stimulating the foot’s reflex zones using a Kansu bowl (Indian massage method). The entire experience lasts for 50 minutes and is extremely relaxing and calming.
