SARAH PALIN TO HOST TODAY SHOW

News

Sarah Palin-will host NBC’s Today Show on Tuesday Morning. The hosting gig has Palin facing off against her infamous nemesis, Katie Couric, who will simultaneously be hosting ABC’s Good Morning America. The television world is writhing with anticipation, to see if Palin will finally get the best of the woman, Palin claims ambushed her in an interview during the 2008 Presidential contest. Sarah Palin began her career as a newscaster and its been suggested that she has longed to return to a similar role. Rumors once circulated about a potential Fox talk show but it never materialized. Considering, Palin’s popularity (amongst right leaning americans) it has seemed odd that Palin has been unable to find a spot on network (or even) cable television. However, her reputation has taken a significant blow since the 2008 race. Questions have been raised about her intellect and expertise and undercut her ability to sound off as an authority on any topic. NBC, is in a ratings fight and some, including Meredith Vieira ( the former host of the Today Show) explain the Palin invite as a desperate manuver for ratings. Some fans of the show are outraged, but others are anxious to witness the spectacle. NBC has been described as notoriously liberal but it’s willingness to include the most popular icon of modern conservatism has the makings for fantastic television.

Worthy Readers, will you watch Sarah Palin on Tuesday Morning?

I Am John Wayne Short Film

Featured, Slider

I am John Wayne is a short film that has been quietly acquiring awards upon awards for the creative story that it tells and the beautifully artistic way that it is shot. The short film has won, the Grand Jury Prize for best narrative at the Hammer and Nail film contest, and it has won a Steiner Studio Award.  The film is literally described as “a lyrical portrait of “Taco” a young black cowboy struggling with the death of his best friend.” The film lends a hand to broadening the perception of young black men. That alone makes it worthy of being featured, but it manages to be more so much man than a statement. The film has an amazing story to tell, and it is all delivered in a way that makes it almost impossible to tear your eyes away from the screen.

I am John Wayne is the brainchild of budding film maker Christina Choe. She began her career as a documentary filmmaker and has screened her short docs “Turmeric Border Marks” & “United Nations of Hip Hop” at numerous film festivals worldwide. She has received funding from New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), Brooklyn Arts Council and Canada Arts Council for her projects.

Enjoy Part 1.

The Extended Status Update: Getting Old But Staying Young

By: Morgan Collins

“I got washed and dressed before noon on a Saturday, so if I do nothing else for the day, I know I accomplished something.”

Today, I patted myself on the back for getting up and dressed before noon on a Saturday, an anomaly for me. No, it’s not the same as getting up early to volunteer with charities benefitting homeless children with rare cases of glandular cancer, but somewhere there’s a trophy with my name on it. “Morgan Collins: Relatively Early Riser.” Back in college, Saturdays were reserved for pajamas and movies. The only physical exercise I did on those days involved digging through the sofa cushions to collect wayward pieces of Apple Jacks. It was my day off. My day of rest, but on the sixth day. Hallelujah, amen.

Now, at 23, there is no rest. My day job as of right now is not my dream job. After the 9-to-5 and on some days the 3-to-11, my real work begins. On Saturdays I have to go back to the drawing board no matter how much I’d like to spend it in an Internet wormhole of Wikipedia pages and Netflix movie marathons. I have resigned myself to the fact that I am getting older and, therefore, must take on more responsibilities. I guess I should have realized this during college, but I went to The University of Florida—everything was just a blur of humidity, football, and dudes in alligator costumes clapping their hands together incessantly.

In a way, my life is just one of many random moments on the universe’s ticking timeline. Aren’t all our lives like this, just blips on God’s radar? I suppose wherever I am at in this act of my life won’t change the ending, just how I get to it. But despite the inevitable, death and taxes, I still try to hold on to my idea of youth. Parties and bullshit. Pajamas and cereal. Silly and childish, maybe, but just my way of sticking it to The Man, whoever he may be.

Andre Leon Talley Reality Show

News

Fashion icon Andre Leon Talley has lead a life that most would die for. He was editor-at-large for Vogue magazine, judge for America’s Next Top Model and contributing editor for Vogue magazine. He managed to do it all in the world of fashion and become an icon while doing it.

Now the icon is adding another reality to show to his perfectly styled and chic belt, the series will be called Fashion Stories. A press release from Bravo describes the show:

We follow four up-and-coming fashion design teams as they produce the defining collection of their careers, all under the watchful eye of fashion icon Andre Leon Talley. The mission to “create, show and sell” is clear for emerging designers striving to build a business in New York City, which remains the heart of the fashion industry.

Only time will if the larger-than-life persona that is Andre Leon Talley can breathe life into a show that sounds as if it might be carbon copy of Project Runway and any other runway show that has been created out of its existence. We say with his expertise, we are bound to see designers pushed to the brink while creating pieces that they could only dream of with Talley as a mentor.

Kerry Washington In ABC’s Scandal

Featured

SCANDAL is one of the most highly anticipated network shows in the new Primetime line-ups. As the competition for ratings heats up, ABC has decided to wager it’s success on a dramatic thriller, starring Kerri Washington and a cast comprised almost entirely of minorities. Scandal is set in Washington D.C. Kerri Washington leads the cast as, Olivia Pope, the President’s former communication’s director and the founder of a highly coveted crisis management firm. D.C.’s most vaunted power brokers turn to her to repair their reputations when the tumult of scandal undermines their elite status. Intricate drama ensues as each episode unfolds into an exciting thriller.

Scandal is a rare exercise in diversity with a storyline that centers around a full cast of minority principal actors. Columbus Short (of Stomp The Yard), plays a skilled litigator. Guillermo Diaz is the firms crackerjack hacking expert and Darby Stanchfield is the firms top investigator. Katie Lowes plays an inexperienced neophyte that quickly becomes acquainted with the real world of crisis care. Veteran actor Tony Goldwyn plays President Grant and Kerri Washington’s forbidden love interest. The husband, father and President presents a compelling and complex love story, wrought with scintillating but forbidden affection.   Jeff Perry, plays Cyrus Greene, the noble true believer and aid to President Grant. He is the President’s moral compass and uses political cunning to temper the intimate instincts of Pope and Grant. Rounding out the cast is the Peruvian born, Stephen Finch, as a brilliant defense attorney. Scandal is also produced by Shona Rhimes, the African American creative genius behind Grey’s Anatomy. For fans of the hospital drama, Scandal will not disappoint. It bares all of the markings of a Shonda Rhimes creation. Sexual tension and intricate plot lines conspire to create a compelling drama that is likely to enhance Rhimes’s reputation for television excellence. In a Primetime line-up that often fails to produce any meaningful roles for minorities, it is worth noting that ABC has bet the farm on a cast with 2 African Americans, two Hispanics and two (technically three) women! But Scandal isn’t depending on ethnic or gender solidarity for its audience. It is a genuinely compelling, slickly produced and well funded production. Time will tell if viewers consider Scandal, Worthy of their time!
