DEMOCRATS BEST DEBATE: A VIGOROUS AGREEMENT

Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders were finally alone in their last debate before the New Hampshire Primary. The removal of former Governor Martin O’malley proved to be surprisingly impactful as the two hopefuls sparred in the best political match of the season. The event hosted by MSNBC stars Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow was undoubtedly the best of innumerable debates on a multitude of channels. There were no attempts at mockery in this debate and no allusions to the marital status of any other candidates, instead the two politicians engaged in substantive exchanges aimed squarely at the nation’s most pressing issues. Emerging from the debate were fewer distinctions in values and instead a display of the Democratic Party’s struggle between pragmatism and idealism. Hillary Clinton emphasized that she is a battle tested acolyte and a known quantity. Voters, she humorously quipped know just about everything there is to know about her life. Clinton argued with Sanders that she too is a believer in Universal Healthcare but her idealism has been tempered by the political realities of her decades long struggle with America’s most powerful political interests. Sanders positioned himself as the unapologetic advocate for the truest aims of the Democratic base and the ideals of the Great Society. Sanders painted himself as untarnished by Wall-street’s bribery and Clinton struggled to explain how she was not left compromised by her acceptance of speaking fees that soared above a half-a million dollars per hour of speaking. Sanders scored significantly in the domestic discussion, nestled comfortably in his wheel-house as he continued to promote campaign finance reform, wrenching the big banks apart to prevent another “Too Big To Fail” crisis, Universal Healthcare and even his most controversial Free College movement. Sanders was summarily dismissed from the stage once the conversation turned to Foreign Policy which has become the sole dominion of Hillary Clinton. Sanders was visibly out of his element when discussing world affairs and Clinton made her most impressive rational for her candidacy which stands firmly on her level of expertise.

The debate was notable for the sharp tonal edge of what Clinton herself described as a “Vigorous Agreement”. Sanders successfully portrayed Clinton as the spouse of Wall Street while Clinton successfully portrayed herself as the pragmatic advocate of incremental progress. Clinton suggested that she represents competent administration and a plausible means to progressive ends. The debate landed squarely on Sanders as representative of democratic idealism and Clinton effectively arguing that Sanders is well intention-ed but delusional regarding the likelihood of his success.

The New Hampshire Debate was quite simply, spectacular. Who Won the exchange depends simply on the weight one gives toward the Heart or the Head, the Ego versus the Super-Ego and Idealism tempered by Pragmatism.

YOUR WORDS, NOT MINE: MSNBC Host’s Rhetoric Questionable

Editor's Journal, News

chris-matthews

In an odd segment of HARDBALL, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked “Who wants to watch a debate with the two cubans (Cruz and Rubio)” when responding to news that Donald Trump was threatening to pull out of the next Fox News Debate, scheduled for Thursday 1/28/16. The segment was noticeable as Mathews, who has been accused of disrespecting prominent women in the past, also seemed to bull-doze a female colleague reporting live from a Donald Trump Rally. The host repeatedly spoke over the reporter, cutting her off at various points. Mathews went on to use what could be deemed an offensive term when referring to Presidential Contender Ted Cruz and his closest senatorial colleague, Mike Lee. Matthews referred to Lee as Ted Cruz’s Sancho Panza (the name of the squire and help meet in Don Quixote). The hosts interviewee retorted to Mathews “those are your words, not mine”. Why, Mathews chose to use repeatedly ethnic references when speaking of Cruz is up to individual interpretation.

DID SAMSUNG RIP OFF EARLY ADOPTERS

Culture, Design, Fashion, Featured, News

samsung-gear-s2-007-1500x1000                                 Did Samsung just pull a fast one on it’s most loyal customers? The company’s new Gear S2 smartwatch was heralded as sleek, thin, round and praised for an innovative bezel that makes navigating the Tizen operating system a joy. The tech world rejoiced as a worthy competitor to the Apple Watch was FINALLY coming to the market. The rotating bezel was so compelling that Yahoo’s Tech Reporter dubbed the Gear S2”The First Smartwatch I’d Actually buy”. At $299 the Gear S2 bluetooth edition also seemed like a bargain when compared to an Apple Watch
that starts at 349 for it’s smallest version. Samsung loyalists rushed out to stores to purchase the device that Ars Technica described as “Svelt”. As the tech world gushed over the device,
few outlets reported that the Gear S2 bluetooth edition came without a speaker. This lack of a speaker means that features that most consumers expect, like the ability to answer a phone
call, or listen to music or (unrelated to the speaker) create a voice reminder on the watch are absent on the Gear S2 bluetooth edition. As Samsung boasted over the early sales of its first
decent smartwatch the company was less vocal about the fact that the 3G version of the device, which comes with it’s own cellular connection and is a dramatically more useful is ONLY $50
more! Samsung could have disclosed to it’s customers that most of the features they desire will be available in three weeks for pre-order shortly after the initial sale of the Gear S2 bluetooth
edition.

Samsung also kindly informed us that the most attractive version of the watch, The Gear S2 Classic (which is absolutely beautiful) will only be available in the bluetooth version at least for now! Samsung has abused its early adopters with one release after another of half baked smartwatches. After finally getting it right, the company continues to betray their trust by ripping them off for a quick fire sale for a device that no reasonable person will choose just to save 50 bucks and by unnecessarily hampering the most attractive version of its device. Samsung is a company that prides itself on relentless innovation but the only thing relentless about Samsung is its pursuit of profit at its customer’s expense. While Samsung may have adopted a new design language and is undeniably producing more beautiful products, the company has not learned that even more enduring than beautiful design is a genuine appreciation for consumers.

Turnberry Isle Spa The Singapore Massage

Culture, Editor's Journal, Fashion, Featured, Lifestyle, News, Worthy Places

15TrbyGlfPool020While our love for all things cultural has afforded us a fair amount of diverse experiences, the Singapore massage at Turnberry Isle Spa (19999 West Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180) stands as a truly unique experience that we had not encountered until our visit at the Miami spa.

The signature massage draws on three cultural experiences that come together to expel fatigue and rid the body of daily stresses and tensions. The unique element of the signature massage is the progressive abdomen (Malaysian method) massage.

“It is the only massage that also massages and works on the stomach,” Turnberry massage therapist, Pillar, shared with the magazine. “It does exactly what the description says it does. It expels fatigue. This is a massage for a super busy person whose mind is always occupied with what else they need to be working on as they are working on something else. This massage will make you feel present,” She said followed by a warm smile.

For Talene Sanchez, an on-the-go office manager, the idea of expelling fatigue and finally having a massage that pays attention to an often overlooked area was all it took for her to request the massage.

“I carry my stress in my stomach,” Talene said. “When I get overwhelmed and overworked, I feel it in my stomach. So the Singapore massage stood out to me just for the abdomen massage. I enjoyed the entire experience. After the massage, I felt like I was floating. I was so refreshed and so relaxed.”

Back tensions are skillfully worked out using a Chinese massage method. Body heat is eliminated by stimulating the foot’s reflex zones using a Kansu bowl (Indian massage method). The entire experience lasts for 50 minutes and is extremely relaxing and calming.

The massage is priced at $149. To make a reservation call 305-933-6930. Visit the site.

Additional noteworthy elements.

15TrbyGlfPool021Turnberry Spa offers a number of features that elevate their services from a simple treatment to an experience. There is a 24 hour gym complete with a number fitness classes ranging from pilates to yoga and a juice bar equipped with Onjuice cold pressed juices, kale chips and coconut granola to name a few items.

KILLER FEATURES SAMSUNG SHOULD PACK INTO IT’S NEXT SMARTWATCH…..But Probably Won’t!

Editorial, News
Concept For Samsung's New Gear A Smartwatch

Concept For Samsung’s New Gear A Smartwatch

The Tech World is anticipating the release of Samsung’s latest smartwatch at the company’s upcoming event-Samsung Unpacked on August 15th. Thus far, Samsung has released a confused offering of 6 different iterations for it’s Galaxy Gear Smartwatch line. The next version of the watch has been code-named The Orbis because the device will be round and Samsung is betting that “Roundness” will be the killer feature that drives customers to buy into the smartwatch category. There are however, many other features that would be more compelling than the shape of the device.

If Samsung wants to catch-up to the Apple Watch it should at least match the functionality of the Apple Watch which despite being marketed as a fitness device is a remote control for smart devices.

Samsung is a uniquely integrated company that produces products in every category ranging from Televisions, Refrigerators, and Computers to Coffee Makers. Whereas Apple and other smartwatch makers must rely on third parties to develop apps that link smart devices to their respective watches, Samsung can create the smart-home ecosystem internally. If Samsung wants to blow the competition away–it should (but probably won’t) demonstrate a watch that not only serves up notifications and masters mobile payments but also activates the coffee machine downstairs, unlocks doors, turns the lights on and off, streams footage from home security cameras, hosts a truly smart assistant and flaunts an “always on” display that perpetually shows the time. Whereas Apple has had a slow roll out of these features, leaving consumers to stumble upon them and piece them together, Samsung can release them all at once as an integrated whole.

Rumors have suggested that Samsung will offer three versions of the device. If this is true those versions should center around offering consumers a wifi/bluetooth version that extends the functionality of their smartphones (which should not be limited to Samsung Phones) and a standalone version that serves as an independent cell phone with it’s own cellular connection. Some consumers, like myself would relish ditching the 5.5 inch phablets in our pockets.

Sleek Edges could extend battery life and ad style to the smartwatch

Sleek Edges could extend battery life and ad style to the smartwatch

Lastly, the design of all smartwatches, including Apple’s watch has truly been lacking. Samsung could leapfrog the competition with a great design. The rumors about The Orbis have suggested that Samsung is duplicating Apple’s “Digital Crown” by creating a rotating bezel that will allow users to navigate the device’s operating system. A superior design, served up by the internet via enthusiastic fans extends the company’s Edge-concept to the Smartwatch. The result is a sleek and unique device that could boost battery life by displaying time and notifications on the side of the device without draining battery life to power the entire screen. This would answer a primary complaint of Apple Watch users.

Most of what we have suggested probably won’t be offered by Samsung. The company is unwisely banking on “Round” as a killer feature when functionality should be their focus. Smartwatches remain a tough sell for consumers. Smartwatches are not a “NEED” and changing the shape of the device will not persuade consumers otherwise. Samsung has yet another chance to get it right…….but they probably won’t!

Indie Soul SI SWIM 2015 Cover

The latest cover of Sports Illustrated is an indie dream. Landing her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, model Hannah Davis sported Indie Soul’s customized swimsuit for the magazine’s 2015 Swimsuit Issue. The bikini – designed specifically for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit – is one of four Indie Soul suits featured in the issue.

“We are thrilled to have one of our suits on the cover of the Swimsuit Issue,” said Tim Gorgol, Indie Soul Creative Director. “We’d like to thank editor MJ Day and the whole team at Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. We’re very grateful for this opportunity.”

Tailored for a “Downton Abbey” theme, the bikini was inspired by outfits from the ‘30s and ‘40s, with a color scheme of nude and black. Following the Indie Soul tradition of handcrafted garments, vintage lace from France was hand- stitched over the brand’s luxurious hand- dyed fabric to create the suit.page1image13920

Davis has modeled for brands such as Victoria’s Secret and Levi’s. She has also appeared in campaigns for Ralph Lauren Blue Label and on the covers of Elle Mexico and South Africa’s FHM. The 24-year-old model made her first appearance in Sports Illustrated in 2013.
