Always Rock Your Confident Shoes

Featured

Shoes are the staple of your outfit. They have the incredible ability to transform any look, and the right pair breeds confidence because you know you’re looking good when you strut around at your favorite event. You’re rocking those bad boys (or girls) and you know it. People are eying your swag, and you just can’t get enough.

Maybe you love those sneaks that you’ve been parading in since freshman year, or maybe you get a new pair of five inch heels every few months (or weeks), or maybe you just have to have those epic flats that remind you of Disney princesses. Whatever shoe you choose, it’s a shoe that brings you confidence and one that truly represents yourself.

The exact same outfit can be completely changed with the right shoes, allowing you to flaunt your varying moods whenever you so choose–professional, casual, or fashionista-to-the-max. If you’re going out after work with the girls or out on a date with your latest flame or longtime boo, swap out your pointed-toe black three inch heels for some studded red pumps or a pair of leopard-print flats, and viola, you’ve transformed yourself from successful business woman to drop dead gorgeous trendsetter.

Whether you are the sneakers type, the stilettos type, or even the type who doesn’t pay attention to what shoes you wear, know and realize that you are one with your shoes and that great shoes can significantly boost your confidence. Shoes are the most important element of any outfit and they can change your ensemble from cool and casual to eccentric and high fashion or anything in between.

Ultimately, your favorite pair of shoes will radiate your innermost personality, so choose instinctively.

These Alessia Solari sandals make us feel like we can take on the world! Which shoes make you feel confident?

The New World Trade Center

Featured

Each year, our hearts ache with the pain caused by the terrible events on September 11, 2001. Each year, we also feel united and we feel great pride for this beautiful country that we live in and for all of its courageous and amazing citizens.

As the years have passed, we have seen the evolution of the new World Trade Center; namely the Freedom Tower. Tower One is representatively 1,776 feet tall and is now America’s tallest building with the most innovative and green technology.

Almost ready to open its doors, this magnificent skyscraper ascends high above New York City’s skyline, and its nostalgic red, white, and blue lighting shines brilliantly in the night sky.

When completed, The World Trade Center complex will have 5 new towers, an expansive retail space, a transportation hub, a performing arts center, and a memorial museum.

The National 9/11 Memorial showcases two beautiful reflecting pools and features the name of every single person who passed in the 1993 terror attacks as well as the 2001 attacks. Eight acres of land is devoted to this memorial, and over 400 white oak trees will eventually grow to 60 feet around the area, creating a stunning landscape of bright jade in the summer and multicolored foliage in the fall.

Education and remembrance will be the focus of the Memorial Museum, which will have artifacts as little as personal items donated by victim’s families to seven-story columns that were retreived from the ruins.

One of the most unique features about the 9/11 Memorial Museum is that it is underground. The reason for this is to highlight the bedrock and foundation of the original Twin Towers which did not break despite the immense amount of force collapsing upon it.

Though America has suffered a tragedy that we will never truly heal from, we have become stronger, more resilient, more hopeful, and more united.

With the completion of this new landmark, the strength, hope, and resilience of Americans will be evident to future generations, and to the rest of the world, forever.

The Seemingly Evasive Entrepreneurial Dream

Featured

Being an entrepreneur is hard work, and aspiring entrepreneurs know this like Jay-Z knows how to rap. If it is your dream to own your own business, the important thing to remember is to never give up.

However cliche it may sound, it is the truth. You may or may not have a full time job (in your dream entrepreneurial industry or not) and you may or may not have a house, a husband, and a child to attend to, but chances are you are one busy woman.

Either way, your dream make-your-own-schedule-don’t-answer-to-anyone-career is staring at you in the face like a mime waiting for a tip.

Time is not on your side, of course, for he disappears like a magician before anyone can mutter the word success. With wishful thinking and good intentions, we think he’ll return, but he is gone forever in the blink of an eye.

The best way to make your entrepreneurial dream come true is to devote as much time as you can, but not so much time that it makes you crazy. It’s just as important to enjoy life as it is to follow your dreams.

Key elements to realizing your success are passion, persistence, and patience; with passion being the most essential aspect.

Without passion,  you are not driven, and without persistence, you might give up.

Success does not come quickly, and if you are stressed, if you are worried, or if you are hopeless, remind yourself about how much you love your passion.

Enjoy the climb to the top and never give up.

THE KNOT MEN NEED TO KNOW

Featured

20130814-020740.jpg

Style for men is often a complicated affair. The opportunity to distinguish oneself- is an unfortunate rarity in men’s fashion. In the drab sea of pin stripes and muted colors, Embellishment is often regarded as a feminine feature. “Fun” in men’s style and the ability to make personal statements in menswear is so rare that WE- as men- must seize upon creative opportunities for self expression.

Dapper men everywhere have recently rediscovered a long established but rarely used staple in mens style; The Eldredge Knot. This rare style of tying ones tie manages to make a masculine but noticeable statement. Men are once again accentuating their wardrobes, by adding this staple to their arsenals of accoutrements. The Eldredge Knot is an emerging trend that most men are reserving for spectacular and special occasions like weddings. We, however think that this knot can and should be used to shut it down at a wider variety of engagements. We’ve posted a detailed how-to- for men (courtesy of http://www.mynicetie.com, a company that enables you to purchase killer ties while making a charitable difference ) that want to distinguish themselves with a unique look that destroys the competition.

Noteworthy Show Mara Hoffman

Culture, Editorial, Fashion, Featured

In the hustle and bustle of the Mercedes-Benz Swim Week craze, there are few shows that are worth the long lines, disorganized guest lists and stifling heat. Mara Hoffman is one of the featured designers who delivers a high-energy, deliciously chic show every time. Hoffman’s fans who lined up outside of the Raleigh were not disappointed this year. Psychedelic classic pieces sashayed down the runway and played perfectly off the ornate  L-Atititude accessories that completed the signature Mara Hoffman aesthetic. Classic label essentials converged on the runway at the Hoffman swim show with shoes provided by Michael Antonio, nails by LVX, make-up by Lori Taylor for Smashbox and hair by Nick Irwin for Catwalk by Tigi. The stylist for the evening was Richard Ruiz and we must say we approved of the wonderfully bohemian chic look that was presented.

Check out the pictures from the show.

Trust-Worthy Pick Matty Rico

Featured, Worthy TV

Worthy Magazine Interviews Matty Rico from Worthy Magazine on Vimeo.

Music artist, Matty Rico, leaned over a second story balcony rapping to the audience where upon first glance he appeared to be a cross of John Legend and Miguel. He sported a chambray Aztec print shirt, a navy blue jacket and burgundy pants. He was rapping the lyrics to his new song, “Sweet Home Chicago.”

His lyrics described the issues that plague the city “I’m from the city of murder you ever heard of it?” The chorus described the love for his hometown with the imagery everyone thinks of when picturing Chicago, “Sky lights… street lights…I want to go to Chicago.” Rico performed over blaring speakers, strobe lights and smoke machines.  Despite his jumping and hand motions he managed to sound exactly the same way he does on his recorded pieces, which was a pleasant surprise.

Downstairs there were 200 people who brought their own form of liquid courage for a night of music at  “The Union Concert Series” on Chicago’s West Side in an art studio turned performance space. They bobbed their heads to the music and snapped pictures on their iPhones to post on Instagram.

Matty Rico, 24, fired up his audience that Saturday night with a performance of his debut album, “New American.”

“For me [the album] is really special because it’s been a really weird year,” said the music artist. Rico added the album was a way for him to reflect on what has taken place the past 365 days including finishing college, moving to Los Angeles, and dealing with being broke and single.

Rico was in a band, Audiodax, when he first moved to L.A. the band broke up for creative differences. Rico decided to stay on the West Coast and began the yearlong process of working on his solo project.

“It was either pack my bags and move back to Chicago or focus on a solo career and take the next step,” said Rico.

Rico didn’t let the group break-up deter him from his dreams which reiterates the determination he has in making music a career. He creates music about his struggles growing up and how he is still trying to find himself as a man.

One of his most intimate songs is about his race, entitled “Black Enough.” Rico comes from Black, Puerto Rican, and Filipino descent and in this song he says “I wasn’t black enough…I never rapped enough.”

“I was always this in between kid trying to figure out my identity and that messes with your head,” said Rico.  “You start trying to compensate and say ‘I’ve got to be more black now’ or ‘I’ve got to be more Spanish.”

Rico’s mother, Lissette Acevedo, who is Puerto Rican and black, is his number one fan and she was shocked to hear the lyrics to a few of his songs.

“My mom’s supportive of everything. A lot of [the album] is about what I do with my life, how I feel as a man growing up and my coming of age,” said Rico.  “I don’t talk to her about all that stuff so it’s kind of hard, but I think she respects the honesty.”

In addition to his mother Rico has the support of the rest of his family. Rico’s aunt, Lourdes Acevedo, stood by his side joking with him the night of his performance.

“I was there when you were born with your legs straight up in the air,” Acevedo said looking at her nephew with admiration. “Now you’re a grown man with a beard and stuff like Common rapping about Chicago, what’s up man?”

Rico’s father, Jose Luis Rivera, sums up his son’s work in a few words.  “He’s got skills!”

Those skills are both natural and they were constructed during his college days where he majored in creative writing at DePauw University in Indiana.

“I had great teachers and they just challenged me. I took a bunch of poetry seminars and my writing has changed so much because I was challenged,” said Rico.

After the performance Rico was surrounded with the love of his family and friends that were excited to have him in town for the evening. Even though he didn’t appear to break a sweat during the performance he retreated to the back of the warehouse for a breather.

The performance left the audience a little more drunk, a little more hype and little more excited about Chicago’s music scene.
