DID SAMSUNG RIP OFF EARLY ADOPTERS

Culture, Design, Fashion, Featured, News

samsung-gear-s2-007-1500x1000                                 Did Samsung just pull a fast one on it’s most loyal customers? The company’s new Gear S2 smartwatch was heralded as sleek, thin, round and praised for an innovative bezel that makes navigating the Tizen operating system a joy. The tech world rejoiced as a worthy competitor to the Apple Watch was FINALLY coming to the market. The rotating bezel was so compelling that Yahoo’s Tech Reporter dubbed the Gear S2”The First Smartwatch I’d Actually buy”. At $299 the Gear S2 bluetooth edition also seemed like a bargain when compared to an Apple Watch
that starts at 349 for it’s smallest version. Samsung loyalists rushed out to stores to purchase the device that Ars Technica described as “Svelt”. As the tech world gushed over the device,
few outlets reported that the Gear S2 bluetooth edition came without a speaker. This lack of a speaker means that features that most consumers expect, like the ability to answer a phone
call, or listen to music or (unrelated to the speaker) create a voice reminder on the watch are absent on the Gear S2 bluetooth edition. As Samsung boasted over the early sales of its first
decent smartwatch the company was less vocal about the fact that the 3G version of the device, which comes with it’s own cellular connection and is a dramatically more useful is ONLY $50
more! Samsung could have disclosed to it’s customers that most of the features they desire will be available in three weeks for pre-order shortly after the initial sale of the Gear S2 bluetooth
edition.

Samsung also kindly informed us that the most attractive version of the watch, The Gear S2 Classic (which is absolutely beautiful) will only be available in the bluetooth version at least for now! Samsung has abused its early adopters with one release after another of half baked smartwatches. After finally getting it right, the company continues to betray their trust by ripping them off for a quick fire sale for a device that no reasonable person will choose just to save 50 bucks and by unnecessarily hampering the most attractive version of its device. Samsung is a company that prides itself on relentless innovation but the only thing relentless about Samsung is its pursuit of profit at its customer’s expense. While Samsung may have adopted a new design language and is undeniably producing more beautiful products, the company has not learned that even more enduring than beautiful design is a genuine appreciation for consumers.

In an era of self-proclaimed gurus and aspiring entrepreneurs, allowing your work to speak for it self is becoming a lost art. In our opinion, Melody Jeha who is the creative director at Destylio is an amazing artist. We appreciated her work before we even understood what Destylio does. Once we understood the genius behind the brand, we were hooked.
“Destylio is a boutique styling studio that offers a wide range of styling services,” Melody said. “Flat lay styling has recently become one of our popular services and is mainly provided to bloggers, online businesses, and brands who are looking for customized stock photos that reflect their brand identity. WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Sometimes, a client has a certain approach or a different vision to a project than the vision I have. The most challenging part about my job is being able to find common grounds without any compromise on any level to create a successful project that exceeds a client’s expectations.
YOU ARE IN DUBAI? CAN YOU DISCUSS WHAT THAT IS LIKE? WHAT IS THE CREATIVE SCENE LIKE THERE? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING THERE?

I have had the privilege to watch Dubai evolve over the years, transforming into a global city dominated by modern architecture and touristic destinations. People of diverse professions and backgrounds come from all over the world and live in this multicultural environment. Being a new- born cosmopolitan city, the amount of activity is quite high on all levels- especially in the artistic sector. Annual design fairs, competitions and international exhibitions are the highlight of Dubai’s creative scene. Dubai is full of liveliness, inspiration and opportunities, which makes it a highly competitive and highly demanding city to live and operate in.

Turnberry Isle Spa The Singapore Massage

Culture, Editor's Journal, Fashion, Featured, Lifestyle, News, Worthy Places

15TrbyGlfPool020While our love for all things cultural has afforded us a fair amount of diverse experiences, the Singapore massage at Turnberry Isle Spa (19999 West Country Club Drive Aventura, Florida 33180) stands as a truly unique experience that we had not encountered until our visit at the Miami spa.

The signature massage draws on three cultural experiences that come together to expel fatigue and rid the body of daily stresses and tensions. The unique element of the signature massage is the progressive abdomen (Malaysian method) massage.

“It is the only massage that also massages and works on the stomach,” Turnberry massage therapist, Pillar, shared with the magazine. “It does exactly what the description says it does. It expels fatigue. This is a massage for a super busy person whose mind is always occupied with what else they need to be working on as they are working on something else. This massage will make you feel present,” She said followed by a warm smile.

For Talene Sanchez, an on-the-go office manager, the idea of expelling fatigue and finally having a massage that pays attention to an often overlooked area was all it took for her to request the massage.

“I carry my stress in my stomach,” Talene said. “When I get overwhelmed and overworked, I feel it in my stomach. So the Singapore massage stood out to me just for the abdomen massage. I enjoyed the entire experience. After the massage, I felt like I was floating. I was so refreshed and so relaxed.”

Back tensions are skillfully worked out using a Chinese massage method. Body heat is eliminated by stimulating the foot’s reflex zones using a Kansu bowl (Indian massage method). The entire experience lasts for 50 minutes and is extremely relaxing and calming.

The massage is priced at $149. To make a reservation call 305-933-6930. Visit the site.

Additional noteworthy elements.

15TrbyGlfPool021Turnberry Spa offers a number of features that elevate their services from a simple treatment to an experience. There is a 24 hour gym complete with a number fitness classes ranging from pilates to yoga and a juice bar equipped with Onjuice cold pressed juices, kale chips and coconut granola to name a few items.

What Does ‘Multicultural’ Really Mean? Indian-American Physician Shares Her Perspective

Featured

For citizens born in America, the term “multicultural” tends to sit on a spectrum of meanings, usually connotation something good.

For many, it means celebrating cultures into which they are not born. For others, it’s something to be merely tolerated. And, for a minority, “multicultural” means a threat to a traditional way of life, one that’s being lost to an influx of foreign or non-majority cultures.

“Thankfully, my experience in the United States has been by and large a welcoming one; however, as an actual immigrant, ‘multicultural’ arguably has more meaning,” says Simi K. Rao, who emigrated from India in her early 20s. She works as a physician and lives with her family in the states.

The U.S. immigrant population stood at more than 41.3 million, or 13 percent, of the total population of 316.1 million, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey.

“Immigration is, in part, what continues to make this a great country, and I think it’s helpful for more Americans to know what an immigrant’s experience is like,” says Rao, author of the new novel “The Accidental Wife” (http://simikrao.com/), which explores the benefits and drama that are often inherent to the immigrant and multicultural experience of many.

Rao lists some of those details.

•  The truly multicultural experience is enriching. Born right in the middle of the India, Rao was able to travel to both the north and south areas of the country. She took in the multicultural flavors of her country of birth and was able to appreciate India’s diversity, which often has ancient roots. Her time in America has enabled her to more deeply appreciate her original culture, “and, I can appreciate the U.S. when I’m away from it, too,” she says.

•  You can appreciate what you have in both countries. “In many ways, I am fortunate that I have the means to visit India,” she says, adding that having two globally significant countries to call home has its benefits. “Many immigrants to America throughout the centuries were too poor to ever visit their original homes.”

•  Fewer people understand that dual sense of home. While there is a sizeable community of Indian-Americans in the United States, not all immigrants know where to go or how to relate to each other during transition. Immigrants to America tend to have a clear goal in mind and, over time, the new country feels more and more like home. However, roots are still felt in one’s original country, which may have very different cultural norms.

•  There are pluses and minuses in each culture. America is a first-world, developed country that still has issues, such as advertisements for unhealthy products such as cigarettes and people who are less welcoming to people from other countries. And, unfortunately, racism continues to remain deeply entrenched in the society – a problem that immigrants have to often contend with.

India still has a long way to go with civil liberties, including an archaic and unfair caste system and discrimination and violence toward women that is far too common.

“And, these differences don’t add up to some kind of balance,” Rao says. “An immigrant has to acclimate to these differences and try to work around them and they often do.  Fortunately, this can enrich our minds and experience. I’d like to think that I have a better – more compassionate – take on humanity because of my multicultural background.”Headshot High Res

I Am Worthy: Jaafar

Featured

If we had to describe Jaafar’s sound, we would say that it is the perfect marriage between middle eastern and western pop music.

Like most artists, Jaafar draws musical inspiration from his upbringing.

“I grew up listening to rock and roll and middle eastern music. I am also inspired by the Heartbreakers, Sting and The Beatles.

Jaafar captured our ears with his hit single Sixteen. Like most great songs, the single is an eye-opening narrative that captures the sentiments of people living in a war torn area and opens the eyes and ears of listeners who may not about such turmoil.

“Sixteen is a good indicator of the over all sound of my album. There is a middle eastern presence with a fusion of pop,” Jaafar said. “I love that video is like the song, simple and to the point.”

A Worthy Swim Week

Culture, Design, Editor's Journal, Fashion, Featured, Lifestyle, Miami Life, Style

Swim Week has ended as quickly as it began leaving us with many memories of the shows that we attended. While it is almost impossible to escape the uniformity of trends and colors, we were happy to see that every designer that we saw found a clever way to stay on trend and unique to their own aesthetic. So here are a few of our observations paired with a few pictures of our favorite looks from our favorite shows.

1. Sinesia Karol

Location: The Setai Hotel

Day: Friday July 17th 8 p.m.

Possibly our favorite show. Sinesia brought us the best of summer with her gorgeous couture swim suits and resort wear. She embraced the warm purple and golds of the upcoming season but she also introduced light warm blues pairing beautiful textures with luxurious fabrics. We sat among her friends and family as even they whispered:

“I think that this is her best collection yet.”

Being that the designer is a prominent fixture in our current issue, we can’t help but admit that we love everything that the designer provides in all of her collections. True to her aesthetic, it was not about shocking her audience, which consisted of the who’s who, with loud colors and patterns. The poetry is always in the collection’s design. Her looks were effortless, elegant, enchanting and yet intricate. Her closing piece left us all in an editorial summer daze.  Like we could imagine having that suit on the digital pages of Worthy right now.

2. Keva J

Location: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel South Beach

Day: Saturday July 18th 2-4 p.m.

The upcoming season seems to be a sharp cry from last season, which opted for dark colors, textured swim suits with long sleeves. For the upcoming season we can look forward to vibrant colors we are happy that purple and gold stayed and that black will never depart. Keva J gave us all the colors of the upcoming season. Her unique signature was that her suits were layered and cut to perfection with perfectly placed muted gray and white swim pieces. We lost count of the gasps of excitement her audience accounted for. Did we mention that Eva Marcelle was in attendance and loved the pieces?

3. Liliana Montoya

Location: Funksion Tent

Day: Thursday: 6 p.m.

What we love about this designer is her ability to make every collection unique and signature to a specific season. What we saw last year was very different from what we saw this year. Down to the cut of her suits and her color choices. Her looks were the perfect mermaid oasis complete with Dash of Flash tattoos. Vibrant, intrinsic and dreamy are the words we would use to describe her collection.

4. Lila Nikole

Location: 1 Hotel South Beach

Day: Sunday  6 p.m.

Calling in one of our favorite worthy women of 2014, Lila Nikole offered up a show that hypnotically trendy and signature.  We loved the conscious choice to showcase one piece swim suits paired with playful, fashion forward sneakers from Kruzin footware.

5. Anita Rincon

Location:  Riviera Hotel South Beach

Day: Sunday 2-4 p.m.

This was the collection for the curvy and confident woman. Purples, dark greens and golds glistened in the summer haze by the pool at the Riviera Hotel in South Beach. The designer paired her looks with one of a kind accessories from Erica Mena’s accessory collection, HER. We loved every detail.
