Kyemah McEntyre, a senior at Cecily Tyson School of Performing Arts, in East Orange, New Jersey has been making waves with her handmade prom dress. In a sea of Met Gala inspired prom dresses, McEntyre broke the internet with her sense of originality and boldness. One of her Twitter captions that has been making headlines eloquently read:

“This is for always being labeled as, “ugly” or “angry”. Thank God, stereotypes are just opinions. – Kyemah McEntyre✊”
McEntyre is going to be attending Parsons School of Design in the fall. We have no problem admitting that we can’t wait to see what she shows us next. She shared on her Instagram that she draws inspiration from all cultures.
“I’m Kyemah McEntyre, I am 18 years old and I am undoubtedly of African Descent. As an artist I have a completely different point of view compared to most individuals. I am extremely analytical and observant. Throughout the world, we have people who do not notice each others essence and humanity. We Stunt our collective spiritual growth by allowing assumptions and stereotypes to cloud our mind and thus our physical reality. We let these negative ideas get the best of us, and in turn a world of isolation is manifested by our lack of sensitivity and desire to sympathize with each other. This results in a world in which people live within the confines of their own space, isolated from each other and separated from the rest of the world.Sometimes we get trapped in our own prejudice ways. We don’t notice how the idea of a particular type of person changes the way we live our lives. The most creative people are the ones who step out of their comfort zone and take advantage of the world around them. My abilities as an artist allows me to experience the benefits that versatility fosters. Being exposed to all kinds of people and cultures is the muse for my artwork. I am an aspiring artist who is very passionate about the connection between art and the world. I believe that in order for society to gain a wider horizon, we have to be willing to acknowledge other people from differences, beliefs, morals, and values. I would like to take this moment to say that you have to understand who you are because if you leave that space open, you leave your identity in the hands of society. Don’t let anyone define you. Beautiful things happen when you take pride in yourself. #blackgirlsrock #kyebreaktheinternet”

This one-of-a-kind look is most certainly #worthyapproved.

The Return of John Galliano

Pending the rumored changes to institutions like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, fashion critics and enthusiasts alike are witnessing the fight for the exclusivity of the fashion industry. Maison Margiela Artisanal 2015 couture spring collection was a return to that old-fashioned invite-only experience. It was also the stage for John Galliano’s triumphant return to the runway.
There were only three photographers in the photography pit, including one in-house photographer. Paparazzi was not allowed inside to document celeb sightings such as Kate Moss and designers including, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Manolo Blahnik and Rifat Ozbek to name a few.

The show is being praised as the perfect marriage between Galliano’s signature aesthetic and Maison Margiela.

From the the ornate use of tulle dramatically draped on the models who glided down the runway to their crystal-kissed lips that paired seamlessly with their drag-queen inspired makeup, the show was the perfect fashion fantasy.

Margiela emailed show notes immediately following the show. While there is some debate as to his reasoning for sending out his notes instead of the tradional behind the scenes interview, the general concensus is that the designer wanted to convey a clear explanation of his creative process. His sentiments illustrated a story of discovery and renewal.

“Approaching tailoring, techniques, craftsmanship like a new explorer, or painter. One who sees beauty in things that are often taken for granted, giving everything a newly enriched life.”

BirchBox Is It Worth It

Every month, there’s that one little thing I look forward to receiving in the mail. No it’s not my outstanding credit card bills or the reminder to visit the eye doctor. It’s my BirchBox; it’s my little sample-sized savior of beauty products to obsess over for the next few weeks. I’m notorious for being that girl in line who wonders off 1,000 times to look at the little goodies surrounding the registers. With BirchBox, it’s as if all of those fun-sized minis are being sent directly to me all for $10 a month. Every month and every box is different, which makes swapping products with my roommates BirchBox that much easier. From an assortment of 4-5 items such as hair products, makeup, perfumes, and skin care all the perfect size for a true test run of various products and brands. Conveniently, they sell all of the full size products on the website for each box you have received, which trust me you’ll find some great gems. My September box, which was BirchBox’s anniversary month contained, Dr. Jart + Black Charcoal Sheet Mask, Perlier Shea Lavender Body Balm, Pixi Butter Lip Balm, Davines Hair Oil, and Tocca Eau de Parfum, all packaged in an adorable kaleidoscope box. BirchBox has encouraged me to try products that I’ve never tried before. My first life changing experience with dry shampoo was all credit to a sample in my BirchBox. One thing’s for sure, my box never seems to let me down, and it won’t let you down either.
