Kanye Wears a Confederate Flag to Barneys
Culture, Editorial, Fashion, NewsKnown for always making a statement, Kanye West has been making a conscious effort to reshape the meaning behind the Confederate flag. Known primarily as a symbol for white supremacy. Recently the rapper decided to pay a visit to Barney’s which has been in hot water recently for racial profiling. The rapper commented on his recent fashion choice to L.A.’s 97.1 AMP
“React how you want … Any energy is good energy. You know the Confederate flag represented slavery in a way – that’s my abstract take on what I know about it. So I made the song “New Slaves.” So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag. Now what are you going to do?”

A Worthy Cause Breast Cancer Awareness
Culture, Editorial, Fashion, NewsThe strength of the human spirit is often difficult to describe. Normally it is something that can only be witnessed. When the world witnessed celebrities like Christina Applegate and Giuliana Rancic and most recently Angelina Jolie go head-to-head with Breast Cancer, we were reminded of how strong the human spirit can be in the darkest of times. As we enter the month of September, the magazine is preparing for the next issue and the month of October is all about giving back and Breast Cancer Awareness. So we wanted to compile a list of a few of our favorite Breast Cancer Awareness items to get you ready for October.
These items can be found on Lisa Leonard Designs, Unique Vintage and Our Gift of Time.
Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lives. Breast cancer kills more women in the United States than any cancer except lung cancer. No one knows why some women get breast cancer, but there are a number of risk factors. Risks that you cannot change include
- Age – the chance of getting breast cancer rises as a woman gets older
- Genes – there are two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, that greatly increase the risk. Women who have family members with breast or ovarian cancer may wish to be tested.
- Personal factors – beginning periods before age 12 or going through menopause after age 55
Other risks include being overweight, using hormone replacement therapy (also called menopausal hormone therapy), taking birth control pills, drinking alcohol, not having children or having your first child after age 35 or having dense breasts.
Symptoms of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in size or shape of the breast or discharge from a nipple. Breast self-exam andmammography can help find breast cancer early when it is most treatable. Treatment may consist of radiation, lumpectomy, mastectomy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.
Worthy Magazine will be promoting awareness and celebrating survivors of Breast Cancer. We would love for you to share your stories and comments with us.
Interesting Trina Pays Homage To Nicki Minaj
Culture, Editorial, Fashion, NewsRapper and renowned Southern sex symbol, Trina, appears to be paying homage to rapper and singer Nicki Minaj. A short video clip shows Trina rapping the lyrics to Moment For Life while dressed like Nicki Minaj. While we are still gathering details about the performance, we must admit that musically this is a refreshing thing to see especially in the world of female rappers, which is largely competitive and often-times petty. Check out the clip and tell us what you think.
It should be noted that Nicki and Trina have always appeared to have a mutual respect for one another. Which Nicki demonstrated back in 2011 when Trina was not among the nominees for best female emcee for the BET Awards. Nicki along with female rapper Diamond quickly took to Twitter, when they saw that Trina was not nominated, to express their disappointment with BET.
So maybe things are changing in the world of female emcees. Either way we thought this was a noteworthy moment to share.

Noteworthy Show Mara Hoffman
Culture, Editorial, Fashion, Featured
In the hustle and bustle of the Mercedes-Benz Swim Week craze, there are few shows that are worth the long lines, disorganized guest lists and stifling heat. Mara Hoffman is one of the featured designers who delivers a high-energy, deliciously chic show every time. Hoffman’s fans who lined up outside of the Raleigh were not disappointed this year. Psychedelic classic pieces sashayed down the runway and played perfectly off the ornate L-Atititude accessories that completed the signature Mara Hoffman aesthetic. Classic label essentials converged on the runway at the Hoffman swim show with shoes provided by Michael Antonio, nails by LVX, make-up by Lori Taylor for Smashbox and hair by Nick Irwin for Catwalk by Tigi. The stylist for the evening was Richard Ruiz and we must say we approved of the wonderfully bohemian chic look that was presented.
Check out the pictures from the show.
